Here are a few items I used to practice some different lightning, aperture, and angles with- kind of silly, I know, but my kids get too impatient for me to practice all the time with them!

Have you read the book "Understanding Exposure"? For some reason I really liked it. There was nothing new, but it's filled with pics, and the author tells about how he shoots each pic. Anyway, just a thought.

You're pictures are great Kiersten! I really like the dinosaur...how you were able to blur the background and make it appear 3-D. Keep taking pictures, you are doing great.
